Hi!

I have a slight problem playing echoes: There are no enemies (or they're invisible and avoiding me really nicely) and i can't shoot. So I'm stuck on an empty starfield  Sad

Any ideas?

Hardware:
Athlon XP 2400+
ATI Radeon 9700
1GB RAM

System:
XP Pro 32bit (SP2)
DirectX 9.0c

c ya, shamada

PS: I'm a developer myself, so if it's not a classic user-problem, I could test a non-stripped version with enabled Debug Output (if you like). But just maybe, I made a stupid little mistake  Wink

Have you fully unzipped the contents of the Echoes archive to disk, and still get the same problem?

If so, it would be very helpful if you compiled a DxDiag report and posted it up on here for us to examine.

Ok, I think I have to apologize:

As I tried to save dxdiag infos, dxdiag hung and i rebooted the machine. suddenly echoes works perfectly Smiley

So after all, it was a stupid fault. And I guess, I know, why this happended:
I haven't restarted the machine for at least 3 weeks, but sent it to SuspendToRam every night. Windows (as far, as I know) has
a time counter, which give you the time since the last boot. And I guess, the game uses this timer and couldn't handle the way-too-big
values returned. Maybe you should check this (although it's a quite seldomly seen problem, as most people shut down their machines regularly)

thanks anyway!

I do not think that this is the case, because echoes works fine here, and i am using my laptop the same way as you do. Also, if it were just the counter, then why would dxdiag hang?

Shamade, assuming your using windows XP.. the problem would be that windows being on for so long would cause the operating system to stop handling ram efficiently due to it being highly fragmented, and when doing that, when loading an application (i.e. Echoes), when loading resources like sounds, images etc, some of them might get lost but still register as being loaded in game... In which case, the program would get confused and cause many weird things to happen.

That's probably been the problem... After all, Windows isn't exactly know as being stable when run long times without reboots Wink

Anyway, big thanks for the help, I'm really looking forward to finally finding some time to play Smiley
