Snuggle Truck is awful. I'm trying Trials 2 on Steam now; guessing Trials HD is the latest Xbox version?

Trials HD came out a couple of years ago.  The most recent 360 game is Trials Evolution.  Bot are equally fantastic IMO Smiley

Just noticed that Trials HD is half price this week if you fancy some 360 Trials action.

Nice... might have to try that.

For now, Trials 2 is... exactly as frustrating as expected. So compelling.

And it stays borderline frustrating as you progress.  It is pretty amazing though.  You will hit many brick walls along the way and convince yourself a level or even an individual obstacle is impossible and then you will learn a new technique and clear it easily.  The rewards far outweigh the frustration in the end.

Now this could get interesting.  Valve to start making hardware?  A Steam console or just a new input device?

Quote
"We're frustrated by the lack of innovation in the computer hardware space though, so we're jumping in," Valve declares. "Even basic input, the keyboard and mouse, haven't really changed in any meaningful way over the years. There's a real void in the marketplace, and opportunities to create compelling user experiences are being overlooked."

Having just played through Machinarium again on PS3 (played on PC years ago), I can't recommend it enough.

Gorgeous graphics, great music and atmospherics and lovely point-and-click gameplay with challenging but not too frustrating puzzles.

Aside from a few obscure uses for objects it's pretty much perfect and as it's available for anything from iOS to PC & PS3 there's no excuse for not trying it. Smiley

So I've talked a lot about indie bundles... and have a lot of indie games in my steam account because of it (and a few on Desura). I haven't touched most of them (and never touched those on Desura). The ones I have mostly failed to really attract me. Even critically acclaimed Braid wasn't for me. That said, Mass Effect initially failed to gain my interest...

I played VVVVVV about this time last year. Spent maybe 3 hours with it, not an insignificant investment. Bit of fun but nothing too interesting. Never went back to it after that day when I was desperate for a distraction.

Then, recently, I got FTL. My word. What a freaking game. I've poured ten hours into it in maybe 3 days. Huge investment by my standards. Absolutely addictive, though it tails off if you don't keep unlocking things which is quite hard to do and I would say nigh impossible if you don't look it up. Still haven't beaten the game on Easy. So that turned my opinion of indie games right around...

...and then I got Hotline Miami. Hoooooooooooooooooly crap. The music is insanely brilliant, every tune absolutely bursting with awesomeness and intensity. Menu theme is sweet as too. And the gameplay, fast, frantic, with high scores and quick restarts as you try and map a way through the level, with twists to keep the game from becoming repetitive at all. So, so good.

Hotline Miami reminds me a lot of Alien Breed, without the aliens. lol

Havn't played it myself.

And i've also heard great things about FTL.

It's funny.
I've never been tempted to buy any indie bundle.
The games never ever appeal to me.
I think as i get older i'm far more selective of the types of games i want.
I tend to keep playing old favourites rather than try out new games.

Probably also due to the fact that i do a lot of game creation that i'm not that interested in trying new games.

The next game i definately know i'll buy is Elite Dangerous.  But thats a couple of years away yet.

I guess for pure games players, there are a large number of games to try, which is very time consuming.
And only a fraction of those tried will turn out to be gems they'll keep returning to.

Do you check any reviews as a guide to what games to try.
Total Biscuit video reviews for instance ?

I used to be a religious games magazine buyer, as a guide as to what games to buy, but i've basically stopped that now.

I love the idea of FTL.  The video of Totalbiscuit playing is as entertaining as many games I've played this year.  Mind, I've got no time for any game where progress is almost impossible without looking things up.  I found Minecraft the same when I played that.

I've seen loads of this in the news and I see they are already trying to fund a sequel.  I might have to dust the decent PC down and give it a try.

I don't actually read/watch any reviews; I buy most indie bundles for rainy days and pick away at the games when I feel like it. With regards to games like Hotline Miami and FTL though, I was recommended them by friends who are very much entrenched in various Youtube channels, including TotalBiscuit's. If my friends are hyping something I usually buy it at a Steam sale, they got me onto Hotline Miami's trailer and I had to have it. Only real video I've seen of him is The Game Station podcast with Felicia Day where they give Jesse a hard time for the first 5 minutes... helps pass these dry days in the uni office as I tick on towards freedom haha.

I'd say if you can pick it up cheaply it's definitely worth a try! I bought it, downloaded it, and did the 5 minute tutorial and was straight on top of things. The only real thing you have to look up is one or two of the ships are difficult to unlock but it's not important; there's more 5 hours of gameplay there easy without having to look up a single thing.

Play it for sure haha. Getting towards the end. Very trippy.

FTL was a bit of dissappointment for me, since the actual game itself is very limited. It's supposed to be a roguelike game in space but it reminds me more of a boardgame with the way you travel and the predefined end. I'd rather like to see an open-ended playmode in it. Other than that, it's a great game I guess... but I haven't touched it after I realized that I would have to play the same "story" over and over and over again.

Oh.  From what I read I assumed it was roguelike and it was different every time?  So is it a fixed story with random events or is everything "scripted" ?
