The file is working...
Strange, made the dx update, but the version number stayed the same?!

Yeah, dx doesn't change file versions... blame MS.
So echoes isn't working, but that is? Hmm....

Ok, so I had my friend with the 3800series run echoes, and no problems. He's got the latest driver and latest DX. The only difference is the sound card, he has an x-fi extreme music.
But i'm not sure if audio would be doing that... HMMMM.

Actually sound card problems are a possibility. In all the games except Echoes sound is played immediately on the intro screen and they crash. On Echoes however sound isn't played on the "instructions" screen (which shen says displays ok) but is played straight after that where the game crashes.
Unfortunately if those drivers are all up to date then I have no idea what the problem could be. There's certainly nothing I can do code wise that would help.

Possibly. A quick attempt at playing all the sound and music files would tell you one way or another.

shen - disable your soundcard in device manager then try playing Echoes. Or delete it entirely from device manager.
(Only do this if you know what you're doing)

Dit it (disabled), game thrown me out with an error msg: "Runtime Error 3002. Could not load sound at line 5406". Also tried to activate my motherboard audio device, same problem (like the audiogy).

It must be some kind of PC issue (hardware, drivers etc etc), but I honestly have no idea what else it could be.
