New Dr.Who at the weekend.  Not bad although like quite a few episodes recently there was a bit too much crammed into 50 minutes and it all felt a bit rushed and chaotic.

Enjoyed Top Gear's latest series but not watching anything at the moment; waiting for new Community, Peep Show (last season kinda sucked though), Big Bang Theory, and HIMYM.

Yeah much better than the last series after which I was thinking they had totally run out of ideas.

....waiting for new Community...
Likewise having finished season 2 and then watched both series through a second time  Tongue

Had to rest up for the last week so rattled through series 3 and 4 of Dexter.  Series 3 was good, but 4 was brilliant.

As for the ending...
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I think I'll have a break before series 5 so do I try Breaking Bad, Prison Break or The Sopranos next ?

I hadn't heard of that so did a quick google and it sounds like my kind of thing so I'll certainly be giving that a go.  Thanks prince caro. Smiley

Whatever you do, don't watch Prison Break. That is one of the most frustrating and annoying shows ever...
That said, if you want to know what the fuzz is about, watch the first 12(ish) episodes of it. That's about how much story they had figured out before expanding the season and ultimately stretching it out to 4 seasons and 2(?) made-for-tv movies.

Never seen breaking bad and sopranos requires you to stick with it, so not sure about either of those.

I've heard a few people say that about Prison Break and it's kind of putting me off.  If I just watch until the end of series 1 do I get a satisfactory conclusion to the story so I don't have to worry about the rest?

The first season was good from what I remember. I stopped watching not even half way through season 2. It was crap.

Not really... but even if you watch the whole thing you'll never get a "satisfactory conclusion".
What I liked about Prison Break when it started was the ridiculously fast pace - but that ended biting them back even before the first season had ended. After the first half or so none of the plans they have ever work. It's so predictable it's just awful.

Cheers chaps.  Sounds like I should file season 1 of Prison Break under one to watch if I ever run out of other stuff.

It might take me a while to run out of other things though as until recently I watched little TV drama and certainly no US drama that I can think of since Twin Peaks  Tongue   I've a lot of catching up to do!

I'd like to recommend some, but I really wouldn't know where to start.

What are you watching now and what has been your favourite drama series so far? (I don't really watch comedy, so...)
I might know a show or two to go with the ones you have seen... seeing as I have pretty much downloaded...er...watched like over half of the drama series aired in the US since...hmm.. Buffy era? (so maybe 97, not sure) And tv before that (with the exceptions such as twin peaks) was...different.

There hasn't been another American show yet that lives up to Twin Peaks season 1. I'd like to see David Lynch do another TV series. Anyway, 24 might be pretty mindless, especially in the later seasons but it's still fun. Great action for a TV show. I would also recommend Terminator SCC, but the ending does nothing but piss me off. Everything else in recent years has either started off great and gone to shit or started off great and got canceled.

Until 3 or 4 years ago when I got real ill I hardly watched any TV apart from sport, or watched a movie or read a book.  It was only when I had to spend months pretty much imobile that changed.

I'm taking a bit of a scattergun approach and trying a bit of everything to see what I like so I'm open to any suggestions.

Some dramas/sci-fi I've enjoyed recently (in some rough order or preference):
Dexter, Luther, Firefly, Ashes to Ashes, Spooks, Burn Notice, White Collar.

... seeing as I have pretty much downloaded...er...
I have a 4Tb Synology NAS for similar and it's just about the best bit of kit I've ever bought.  I love the thing.  Although I buy boxsets of stuff I find I like it's still easier to source them elsewhere, stick them on the NAS and stick the DVD's in a cupboard.

There hasn't been another American show yet that lives up to Twin Peaks season 1.
Possibly the best bit of TV I've ever seen.  I try and forget about the later episodes Smiley

Anyway, 24 might be pretty mindless, especially in the later seasons but it's still fun. Great action for a TV show.
You know what, I got a huge boxset of 24 and then for some reason couldn't motivate myself to watch a story that lasted 24 x 1hr episodes (and yes given the premise of the show I realise how stupid that sounds  Grin ).  I also have Band of Brothers boxset unopened too.

Actually I'm going to dig 24 out and give it a go.   BunnyMonkey!

I would also recommend Terminator SCC, but the ending does nothing but piss me off. Everything else in recent years has either started off great and gone to shit or started off great and got canceled.
I briefly tried Terminator SCC and couldn't get into it.  Likewise I tried the latest Stargate and lost interest in that too.

The one advantage of coming to all these series late is I can avoid the ones that got cancelled and thus never reached a satisfactory conclusion.

I should have said everything else out of what I've watched... There are definitely other shows that seem to get massive praise such as Sons of Anarchy, Dexter, Breaking Bad etc. I've never really watched Sons of Anarchy or Breaking Bad, and Dexter I just couldn't get into. I need to catch up on The Walking Dead, as I've only watched the first 3 episodes. I'm not sure why either as they were great.
