First it was Google, the Youtube and now Metacitic has had a makeover and it's bloody awful.  They seem to be pushing things like trailers now turning Metacritic into just another generic site and totally losing site of what made it successful and why peoiple used it in the first place.

All the useful info is now spread across several pages....if you can find it at all.  It's horrible, but hey, at least their "clicks" will increase which will help advertising revenue.  Tongue

It's all about the money.

The world economy is still in dire straights.  No matter what the politicians tell us.  Economists are painting a very different picture.

For most companies now, it's a matter of survival.

Yup no doubt.  It's also a fine balancing act though and judging by the 100% negative feedback on Metacritic this could end up costing them big style.

Imagine a world where everybody installs adblock plus.
And the more popular things like that become the more other ways of delivering ads that can't be avoided will be put in place.

Things like having to watch an ad before watching your Youtube clip and whole sites being re-skinned to suit an ad campaign are already becoming popular.

Looking back we'll probably think pop-ups were just a minor inconvenience in comparison.

How come I only get the tramp begging for change at the cashpoint?

the ad before a youtube clip is bad.

but whole page ad campains don't bother me.
those are stylish and not distracting, that's mostly why i got adblock.

I watched an ep of Peep Show on Youtube and you had to sit through 4 adverts before it started and another 4 halfway through.

That's no different from TV, but it just feels wrong online for some reason.

Looks like it's not just me that doesn't like the Metacritic makeover.

Over 600 comments and I can't see a single positive response.  Shocked

Reading about the trapped miners in Chile...

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-latin-america-11064687

... and I wondered how it would take 4 months to get them out.  I mean I know it must be tricky after a collapse and the will have to be ultra careful, but surely it shouldn't take that long?  Then I saw this pic.  I didn't realise they had to dig a whole new shaft from the surface.

And they plan of lifting the survivors one at a time through a 66cm wide shaft some 600m long?  Shocked  Not good for my claustrophobia....leave me here thanks  Tongue

I know some concept cars are a bit weird and wacky, however there's normally some method and reason in their designs.....so what the hell is going on here?

I feel sorry for the kids slightly injured, but it's good to see another bull getting some payback.  Got no time for Bullfighting etc...

Quote
A bull has injured 40 people after jumping out of the arena at a Spanish bullring and marauding through the crowd.

TV footage shows spectators trying to restrain the animal - one fan grabs its tail - as it careers through the stands.

Most of the injured were treated for cuts and bruises, officials in the northern town of Tafalla said.

But nine people were taken to hospital in nearby Pamplona.

Among them was a 10-year-old boy who apparently suffered multiple bruising when the bull fell on him, and a 24-year-old who was gored.

The animal was brought under control after several minutes and was later killed.

Analysts say bulls occasionally leap security fences at bullrings but they rarely make it into the crowd.

LMAO  Grin  Yeah it probably seemed like a good idea at the time.

Speaking of bad ideas...

The BCAA Traffic Safety Foundation has partnered with safety group Preventable to place an optical illusion of a little girl chasing her ball in the street. For drivers it will appear as a 3D image of a girl in the street which they have to decide is real or not.
http://www.geek.com/articles/geek-cetera/3d-image-of-little-girl-in-street-used-to-slow-down-drivers-2010092/

Now is that really going to prevent accidents or is it going to take drivers by surprise and actually cause more accidents?  Tongue
