When did Monkey become Monkey X?  What changed?  Anyway the site has had a much needed makeover.

http://www.monkeycoder.co.nz/

Quite an impressive list of target platforms now too. much better than AGK:

    Windows
    Android
    Flash
    OS X
    iOS
    HTML5
    Linux
    WP7/WP8
    Xbox 360

So a few people over on the TGC forums, myself included, were getting a bit anxious about the lack of updates on AGK V2.  It's already several months overdue.

Turns out that there haven't been any updates because TGC haven't been working on AGK and have instead been working on some Driving Instructor App instead.  Tongue

Not a great way to treat existing customers and doubly shitty given AGK V2 was being funded via Kickstarter so a lot of people have invested money in it only for TGC to work on something entirely different.

Seems like nothing has changed in the 10 years since there were similar issues with DBPro.  They might have a bunch of talented guys working on their projects, Lee & Paul, but when it comes to management and communication they are stuck in the dark ages.

Nice.  I played with Monkey for quite a while when it first came out and was pretty impressed.  If I'd decided to do my coding in Basic then it's the language I'd be using now for sure.

Anyone who might fancy giving AGK a try any time in the future should grab it now as it's free while GDC is on.

Definitely worth a look.

I stumbled across the AGK community functions post which includes a library of code to supposedly help users.  Some of them are just broken and don't work while others are pretty incredible ways of doing things  BunnyMonkey!

Want the negative version of a number?  Tongue

Code:
FUNCTION negate( value# )
nvalue# = value# * 2
value# = value# - nvalue#
Endfunction value#

Wow  Grin

yeah we know you can calculate an angle in one line of code, but why bother when you can use 30 lines instead?  Tongue

Code:
function calculateAngle(xPosition1#, yPosition1#, xPosition2#, yPosition2#)
distance# = calculateDistance(xPosition1#, yPosition1#, xPosition2#, yPosition2#)
angle# = 0
c# = 0;
if yPosition1# > yPosition2#
c# = yPosition1# - yPosition2#
elseif yPosition1# < yPosition2#
c# = yPosition2# - yPosition1#
endif
if distance# > 0
angle# = ASin(c# / distance#)
    endif
if xPosition1# = xPosition2# and yPosition1# < yPosition2#
angle# = 180
elseif xPosition1# = xPosition2# and yPosition1# > yPosition2#
angle# = 0
elseif xPosition1# < xPosition2# and yPosition1# = yPosition2#
angle# = 90
elseif xPosition1# > xPosition2# and yPosition1# = yPosition2#
angle# = 270
elseif xPosition1# > xPosition2# and yPosition1# < yPosition2#
angle# = 270 - angle#
elseif xPosition1# < xPosition2# and yPosition1# < yPosition2#
angle# = angle# + 90
elseif xPosition1# > xPosition2# and yPosition1# > yPosition2#
angle# = angle# + 270
elseif xPosition1# < xPosition2# and yPosition1# > yPosition2#
angle# = 90 - angle#
    endif
endfunction angle#

These kind of things with no effort at moderating the content do more harm than good.  God help new coders who stumble across this stuff.

Well TGC have finished work on a new Basic compiler/interpreter that they've apparently spent the last few months working on (I say apparently because it's not that long ago they admitted they hadn't been working on AGK at all, but instead FPSCR.  Tongue )

As I'm using C++ I don't care about this new Basic compiler, but hopefully it means they can now start working on some of the new commands and features they promised in the Kickstarter that I'm still waiting for.
