Thats really cool.

I get quite excited when i think that the VR headset could be used with my RPG.   Grin

I really hope the headset is released at a sensible price.

This is one piece of hardware i've been waiting for ever since i started programming.

Likewise.  If I had a bit more time I'd definitely be getting one just to have a play with.  I'm assuming it's pretty easy to incorporate into your game if it's in 3D.

Cost wise the dev kits are $300 but I'd expect the consumer version to be nearer $100 if the want mass market penetration.  The main cost must be the screens and they use are being used in huge numbers in the mobile market so the cost is forever falling.

Cool.   Grin

That looks loads of fun.

I'm a big racing game fan, i'm forever playing them.

I can see this being used for driver training in all areas, not just motorsport.

Maybe even as part of the driving test.

It's applications go beyond games.

A true 3D driving game, especially with goggles, would be terrifyingly awesome.

Hope they don't use it in the driving test. Out here we have a video based section in a driving test with 320x240 video, I swear. Super pixelated. Almost impossible to pass just because of that. :/

I just hope some sort of console compatibility happens(*).  Whichever console does that gets my cash.  A next gen version of PGR, GT or Forza with this?  God yes.

(*) Sony already have already invested a lot in their own headsets so I doubt thy would effectively kill that by supporting OR unfortunately.

I'm in the same boat but not for PGR. Forza or GT, definitely. Except there's a caveat - I don't want to accidentally pull a reverse Hamilton; switch camps to Gran Turismo just as Forza finally gets a decent racing wheel... Tongue

Why would you need a steering wheel when you have Kinect? Wink

Drive Club looks like being a PS4 launch title and it's looking rather ace.

That looks (and sounds, particularly) awesome. I'm thinking probably a PGR2 type game?

From what they've shown I've no idea if it's more GT or PGR. The detail on the cars they showed at the PS4 unveil topped even GT though.   Expect more in a month at e3.

Oculus Rift seems to be going down a storm at GDC right now and dev kits are now in early Kickstarter supporters hands so expect a flood of cool videos showing it in action.

The only negative I've read is that the 720p screens are still a little low res for this application, but as I mentioned earlier, the mobile market means screen tech is improving rapidly so it shouldn't be a problem nearer launch of a consumer device.

GDC 2013: I have worn the future of gaming, and it is the Oculus Rift

Not just for OR, but for VR in general.  This has proved the tech is finally available at an affordable price and that there is a willing market for it, something 3D monitors & TVs have yet to prove.

I must admit ven though I'm hyped for VR I've never really considered what games it would be great for beyond the usual FPS & driving games.  Seeing some of the demos done with the dev kits has me thinking.

This physics demo uses Razer Hydra (think Wiimote or PS Move) to accurately map your hands in the 3D environment.  First person basketball actually looks playable! Bring me first person Fight Night and I'll die a happy man.
