Kickstarter rules or not, this has got to hurt.  It fell just $28 short of its target so they get nothing.

You would think the dev's themselves would make pledges in order for the campaign to reach it's goal.

I half expect that from DB with Elite Dangerous.

In DB's case, it might be worth pledging 100k in order to reach the 1.2m goal.

I would imagine that's against the Kickstarter terms and conditions.  It's probably classed as fraud  BunnyMonkey!

Thats interesting.

I wouldn't have thought there would be any legal issues with that, but it might contravene Kickstarter's rules.

I don't see it as fraud at all though.

Theres no intent to decieve, just intent to complete the goal.

So i did a quick check.

This is from the "Backers" FAQ

http://www.kickstarter.com/help/faq/backer%20questions#BackAProj

"Can people from outside the US or UK pledge to projects? Yes! Anyone, anywhere (with a major card) can pledge to Kickstarter projects."

I couldn't find anything that says project creators can't back their own projects.

If it doesn't contravene any rules then i could definately see Elite Dangerous or Godus being funded if the creators make up the deficit.

These big names probably have a fair bit of cash behind them already.

And i would imagine all the other backers would welcome a creator pledge if it means the project reaches it's goal and gets made.

Everyone has a vested interest in seeing the project succeed.

The "Creators Guidelines" seem to say you can't back your own project, although not for the reason I'd imagined (unless the credit card reason is just easier to police than checking each backers identity against the creators)

Quote
Can I pledge to my own project?

No. Credit card rules forbid project creators from paying themselves.

Ahh ok.

Good find.

I stand corrected.   Smiley

I wonder why it's not allowed.

I still don't see anything wrong with it.

I'm a bit more worried about Elite Dangerous now.

Cool.

It's really interesting seeing the 22cans development offices.
I enjoy the tours he does.

Real pity Godus won't make it's Kickstarter goal though.  Cry

I wonder what their plans for it are now.

And just look at that Christmas tree.   Shocked

So, Dizzy then has been a spectacular failure so far.

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/theolivertwins/dizzy-returns

25k pledged of 350k with 6 days to go.

I think Dizzy is a well loved character people remember from their youth, but there just hasn't been enough interest generated to reach the goal.

It's been well publicised in the past that the Oliver twins were multi millionaires from writing their previous games.

Is it really hard to believe they can't fund this project out of their own pockets.

Looks to me as though they have jumped on the Kickstarter bandwagan looking for easy money.

Already it looks as though kickstarter is becomming over saturated and campaigns are getting harder and harder to fund.

Good thing I say.  Leave Kickstarter for the people that wouldn't be able to fund their projects themselves.

As posted earlier, the amount of money they were after for this is a joke really.

Kickstarter obviously funds a lot more that just games so I wonder if other areas, books, comics, music etc have the same problem.

Godus has had 50k pledged in the last 24 hours.

With 60 hours to go it looks like it might just make it.

They need another 50k though.

If it does make it, then it will have gained about 1/4 of it's funds in the last 3 days.  Shocked

Sounds like panic pledging.

Well just 3 1/2 hours after your post and they only need 2k now.  Looks like their great daily updates are paying off and, as I mentioned above, they were staff pick of the day recently which gave them a big boost.

Yep, i see now they have made their goal.   Cheesy

I'm really glad, although i'm really suprised it made it's goal.

It was looking quite desperate with just 3 days to go.

Like you say, the Staff Pick must have really contributed to it.

Thats over 100k (nearly 1/4 of it's goal) pledged in just 3 days.   Shocked

It's been really interesting to follow the campaign.

Godus and Elite are the first two Kickstarter campaigns i've been following, watching them peak and troff, but i agree with you, regular, almost daily updates has kept interest and probably helped get them on the Staff Pick list.

Yeah I'm looking forward to Godus, Populous being in my top-5 games of all time. Smiley

Did you know TGC are using Kickstarter although it's not going great so far.
