Crap design encapsulated in a screenshot.

The PS3 controls for R-Type.  What happened to classic shmups that used one fire button?  BunnyMonkey!

It's a common annoyance these days.  Give devs more buttons and they'll find an often unnecessary use for them.

I like the new FIFA games, but I'll never love them because of the need to remember 60 different button combinations to get the most out of them.  Give me one-button Kick Off or Sensible Soccer any day.

So the plague of overcomplicated controls continues.

EA's UFC demo came out today and already the net is full of people saying it's unplayable because of the controls.  It can't be that hard surely?  BunnyMonkey!

I've cancelled my download.  Tongue

Ha, I like this thread.. Cheesy

Though I would like to see the two best developers play each other and see how well the controls work for them.

heh yeah.

One of the biggest problems of being a developer is that working on something for so long makes things like control complexity hard to judge. You might work on a project for 2 years, gradually adding features and new controls as you go making it easy to learn them.  Instead of 2 years you have about 2 minutes to get those controls into a players head.

The opposite of this is Nidhogg, IMO, which is amazing and only has movement+two buttons.

And you could still argue that's one button too many Wink

This is from the Surgeon Simulator guys, although it looks like it will play more like Octodad, they all have one thing in common and that's intentionally difficult controls.

Looks like a laugh....I just hope it can keep that up longer than Surgeon Simulator did.
