Hi jblade.

I'm afrad that error message doesn't mean a great deal.  Are you still having problems and if so what exactly happens?

The crash problems are caused by data execution preventions (DEP) being enabled.  To disable DEP for the game, go to Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> System.  Open the advanced tab, click settings for performance.  Open the DEP tab, click the add button, and select the main gaim executable.

ah, that one.

I am still kinda surprised to see people who actually use DEP. As far as I know, windows (xp or vista) doesn't come with DEP enabled by default. Though it's nice in theory, I'm not sure if it has actually been proven to do much anything in real life.
