Music Error In Echoes And DUO [SOLVED?]
«

Whenever I crank up Echoes I get an error: it runs through the now loading screen with the old computer code on it, then crashes with an error: Runtime Error 3502 - Could not load music at line 5434. DUO does something similiar: it shows the Binary Zoo splash page, shows the title screen and the words Now Loading..., and then crashes with the error Runtime Error 3502 - Could not load music at line 4880.
Now both of these errors are from fresh boots of my computer, with no other programs running. What would be causing them, and how do I fix it?
EDIT:
See possible solution here:

Hi Dogstar and welcome
That is a truly strange error as nobody else has reported it as far as I can remember.
Anyway thanks for the detailed error messages......I'll quickly check and see exactly which music it is trying to load at that point.
EDIT:
Well the Echoes error looks like it should just be loading the main game sountrack. Nothing could really go wrong with that provided the file exists.
Any chance you could post the contents of any data.log or error.log files in the Echoes "data" directory? (no need to worry about DUO)

Nothing obviously wrong there. Hmm. I don't suppose you're using any of your own music in game by putting it in the "My Music" directory? If so then try emptying that directory please.

Hmm now I'm confused
Well as I said earlier, nobody else has reported this so we can probably assume it's something to do with your PC setup although I can't think what just now. I'll give it a bit of thought.

you are not the only one that is having this issue. I am having the same problem on my home PC. However, I have had the pleasure of playing echoes on my work PC. Fantastic game would keep me amused for weeks on end.
anyways for the trouble shooting.
updated all nvidia drivers
updated all sound drivers... I do have a sound card however I do not think it is a hard ware issue.
clean reboot. no other programs runnning
DX9.0c
Windows XP pro.
if you want the specs of the machine I can get them no problem
still gives me this runtime error
my question is what specific file is it trying to load at line 5434.

Well for reasons beyond my control the error line number doesn't relate exactly to my code (it's normally a few lines out) but ther are only 2 pieces of music in the game so provide they are ok there is no obvious problem.
./echoes/media/music/MM_Menu.mp3
./echoes/media/music/particleillusionloop.mp3

I have both music files in the correct location, if that was any concern. I have no idea what it could be..
I will check back regularly to see if there was a fix. as well as try and find one on my end.
thanks anyways

Just to see if I could trouble shoot some more I have insatlled... or rather unzipped all the games at BinaryZoo
none of them work they all flip back error that they could not load music at line #### different for each game.... I had a feeling that it had to do someting with my machine probably something I did. Anyways if the game and line numbers would help in anyway let me know and I can get them for you.

Darkbasic Pro...
Which I am guessing it has something to do with the way it is compiled (or the term I like to use for anything compiled via DBP's compiler: crapiled) and your computer not liking it.

< Try downloading a game from there that isn't a BZ game, see what happens.

Oh, dogstar and torpedomax... Post some specs. I'm willing to bet there is something similar in the hardware specs of both of your home machines that is the culprit. I remember when I used to use integrated sound (Realtek powered, can't remember the model/version, though) I had a similar problem with a lot of the programs I would compile via DBP 4 (I think, mighta been 3). Of course, those are older than what is being used for Echoes, but I don't think any updates have changed the sound routines what so ever. I may be wrong though, I don't follow the language like I used to.

As I guessed, its definitely something to do with the way Load Music is crapiled by the crapiler of DBP not liking your PC.
As for a fix, no clue. Route it through Load Sound (which is what I am guessing Cow Abdcuctor and Alien Racer do, unless they use a 3rd party plugin), possibly? Not sure what kinda effect that would have with the other sounds being run through the game, though.
