My head hurt just watching that.  I'm okay with small spaces but that long with no stimulus, no food and with the light on would send me a little nuts.  He has the right idea trying to sleep through it but honestly I would have lasted about 2 hours before I started pulling the walls, roof and floor off to try to get out.  I would also have started by smoking my cigarettes to try to set off the alarm but I guess he'd already pressed the emergency button. That's going to freak me out when I get in an elevator next. thats for sure.   40 hours.... I hope he got paid double overtime for that.

No, he didn't exactly get double overtime for it.  Quite the opposite.
