Good point Fog.

And Freeware is becomming increasingly popular now too.  Especially in the Mmorpg market.

Itunes has changed the music industry quite considerably.

I've heard it said that before Itunes, music album sales were the norm and after, single album tracks are.

I'm not an MMO man so how do the Free tp Play games make money?  Do they charge a subscription or have in game advertising?  On iOS more and more games seem to be going FTP with revenue generated through in game purchases and looking at the top grossing games people seem more than willing to do that.

It seems to make sense.  Just the fact your game is free probably means your user base is multiplied ten fold and even if a relatively small percentage of them make an in game purchase, your revenue will be larger than initially charging for the game.

Yeh.

Infact, i think most are not actually totally Free to play, but in game micro transactions, or pay for access to other content or level caps ect is the system they use.

World of Warcraft for instance is Free to play, but capped at level 20.  If you want to play beyond the level 20 then you have to pay a subscription.

But a lot of games that were Subscription only are now implementing this type of business model.

And as you say, they do report large increases in new players and thus larger revenues.

I like that system.  Lets face it, anyone that has played up to level 20 is already hooked and very likely to subscribe.  I bet their conversion rate is much higher than average.

Yup, BSc in the bag last year, just the last push to round it up and get an MEng :O And certainly, the coursework is interesting at the moment, if a bit difficult.

Then I will return to FAT BAT Smiley
